Black Powder in Atomcraft

Black Powder was added in the July 29, 2026 update alongside the Blender Gun improvements and Blueprint flipping controls. It is Atomcraft entry-level explosive: a spark-triggered compound made from three readily available reagents, less catastrophic than Nitroglycerin but reliable enough for mining shafts, demolition work, and controlled blast chambers.

Crafting Black Powder

Combine the following three materials in a reaction chamber:

Charcoal	Produced by heating Wood in a low-oxygen or controlled-heat environment
Potassium Nitrate	Found as a mineral deposit or produced via the nitrification loop (Nitrogen cycle + Heat)
Sulfur	Mined from volcanic or geothermal surface deposits

The reaction is spark-triggered: Black Powder will not detonate on its own. Use a heater pixel, flint-spark setup, or the Nuke Launcher controlled blast to ignite it. Once sparked, the explosion propagates through the powder mass rapidly.

What Black Powder does

Black Powder explodes on spark with a moderate destructive radius. It is useful for:

• Mining shafts - blast through hard rock without the overkill of Nitroglycerin
• Demolition - remove old forge walls or clear blocked passages
• Controlled blast chambers - small, repeatable explosions for moving heavy materials
• Legacy compatibility - Nitroglycerin remains available for endgame destruction

Black Powder is the gradual step up from pickaxes and drills. Nitroglycerin is for when you need to level a mountainside or carve a new river channel.

How to set up a spark trigger

The simplest spark trigger uses a Heater pixel adjacent to the Black Powder mass:

1. Place Black Powder pixels in the target zone.
2. Adjacent to one end of the powder mass, place a Heater pixel.
3. Wire the Heater to a Button or Switch so you control the timing.
4. Press the Button; the Heater sparks and ignites the Black Powder.

For more precision, use a Timer to delay ignition after the Button press, giving you time to retreat.

Safety notes

• Store Black Powder away from active heat sources until you are ready to blast
• Do not place Black Powder adjacent to your main forge - a temperature fluctuation could trigger premature ignition
• Use conveyor locks or filter pixels to move Black Powder only when the blast zone is clear
• The explosion does not discriminate between ore and bedrock; plan your blast geometry before pressing the Button

Black Powder in the July 2026 patch notes

Black Powder arrived alongside several other quality-of-life additions:

• Blender Gun now respects islands - blending across a wall will not throw materials outside your forge
• Blueprint flipping with B and N keys for easier mirrored builds
• Spaceship Inventory Hold button - materials with Hold enabled skip the Transfer All pass
• Hypochlorous Acid reactions - no longer a dead-end reagent
